We would be pleased to see you supporting Edinburgh Accies at Murrayfield in their first ever Scottish Cup Final and last game of their 149th season.
TICKETS: If you buy your tickets from Accies, Accies get all the money for the club funds. This is happening as there is no prize money for this years participants in the final. You can order/get your tickets from the following sources Jason Parrot by e-mail at cupfinaltickets@edinburghaccies.com or by contacting or going to Raeburn Place between 10.00 and 6.00 or calling 0131 315 3298 at same times. Tickets will be sent by First Class Post up until Wednesday. We are making arrangements for picking up tickets on Saturday morning at the Academy Hall, where there will be a pre match Brunch with buses to Murrayfield. We are also trying to sort out a meeting place/pick up spot at Murrayfield - but more of that later when confirmed by the SRU. Tickets are £10 for adults and £5 for U18s, students and 60+.
PRE MATCH BRUNCH: Arrangements have been made to use the Academy Hall and the garden infront of Donaldsons for a pre match brunch where Accies supporters can meet before the game, have some food and refreshment, then head off for Murrayfield by coach. The cost for the food and bus to Murrayfield will be only £5 for adults and £2.50 for juniors - drinks £1.50 alchoholic and £1 soft. There is free parking at the Academy as well.

Get back to Raeburn after the match and celebrate whatever happens a very successful season with the 1XV squad.
The logistics of getting Alistair Marsh from his wedding to Raeburn Place - so he can go to Murrayfield in the team bus - is still being worked on, otherwise all plans for the team and the game are moving ahead well. Accies will be providing ball boys and mascots will go onto the pitch with the match squad of 22.

Developments at Raeburn Place.
Like many of you I sometimes wonder if the prospect of a new pavilion at Raeburn Place, together with all the trappings, is simply a figment of my imagination. Some grand plan hatched in the mists of time, which, like many others, foundered when the detail emerged and the planners shouted stop.
However several things have now happened which make me think that we are, at last, moving in the right direction. I had deliberately delayed in putting pen to paper in the hope that the dotted line would indeed have been signed upon by this time. It has not but you are due an update as we move into a new rugby season.
We were successful with our appeal against the City Fathers’ turning down our second planning application. A full public enquiry was held in January though we had to wait until May for the result. We are indebted to Festival and the impressive team assembled to explain the detail of the scheme to the reporter. I note particularly the contribution of James Simpson of Simpson and Brown, Architects, who has been largely responsible for the redesign of the hotel, supporting the aims of the project and on a fine delivery at the enquiry.
Festival Inns then applied for a licence to run the expanded hotel and the new clubhouse at the Licensing Board at the end of June. The licence went through unchallenged.
During July we have been working through the detail of the various legal agreements, which will have to be put in place to enable Festival to formalise their funding proposals and proceed to the application for a building warrant.
We have established three main committees to finalise the structure of the deal with Festival and the leases required, detail the specification of the new pavilion and formalise the management agreement under which Festival will manage the facility. All three committees are about to conclude their deliberations and the resultant texts will be passed to Ewan Alexander of McGrigors who has been appointed to represent the Club in drawing up the documentation.
I note below all those involved and on your behalf thank them all for the time taken in defining the issues.
Structure: Tony Hamilton, Roy Durie, Colin Innes, Frank Spratt and the Rector.
Buildings: John McLaren, Alasdair Carmichael, Lizzie Gardiner, Hamish Mitchell, Mike Moir, Vincent O’Donoghue, and Ed Saunders.
Management Agreement: Gordon Wallace, Bill Menzies, David Gardiner, Rob Cowie, Robert Miller, Tony Ostrowski and John Petrie.
The principle architect for the scheme was David Cochrane who's business has now merged with that of McLaren Murdoch and Hamilton. David’s continued assistance with the design and specification of the pavilion and his liason with Mike Towers of McLaren Murdoch and Hamilton has been most helpful.
The final step before a building warrant can be applied for is to conclude the formal legal agreements. Hopefully these will be produced in the next couple of weeks and accepted by all parties.
Three months to work up all the technical drawings and obtain the building warrant and we could see work starting on the new pavilion in January /February. Having already run with this thing for five years such an outcome would represent something of a sprint finish!
In closing I should like to acknowledge two further vital contributions that have been central in our being able to weather the storm of planning applications and appeals.
Firstly, Festival Inns. There has been a justified concern that the level of service available at the club has, on a number of occasions, been well below that we had come to expect. However the state of the pavilion and the modest level of turnover at present, have made life both difficult and indeed loss making for Festival. None the less their contribution in running the pavilion and donating a very significant annual cash sum towards our expenses has been vital to our continued existence. The discussions we have had regarding the management of the proposed facility have been very positive and have given the participants much encouragement for the future. Additionally we both know that the transition from the old to the new will be difficult and your forbearance is likely to be required!
Secondly, Gordon Wallace stepped in as honorary manager of the Sports Centre over three years ago and has had a pretty unenviable task in keeping things going and eking out our scarce resources. This has been done with little or no increase in our deficit and equally importantly we have kept our overdraft in check. If Gordon occasionally appears to be carrying the weight of Raeburn Place around on his shoulders the reason is that in many respects he is!
Tony Hamilton

W I D ELLIOT.
We were very saddened to hear of the death of Douglas Elliot, at the age of 81, last Friday. Douglas played for Accies between 1942 and 1957 and was the regular choice for Scotland between 1947 and 1954, playing 29 games and captaining his country on seven occasions. He was the outstanding back-row forward of his generation, regarded as one of the best - if not the best - in the world. Douglas was selected for the 1950 Lions tour but could not afford to be away for six months thus missed out.
Douglas was a player of striking physique, he had a long powerful stride which produced an exceptional turn of speed enabling him to repeatedly tackle a three-quarter, who having broken through, would normally have been clear of any covering forward. He pushed his full weight in set scrums, was a grand dribbler and a formidable spearhead of many a forward rush and had a fine positional sense. Douglas left the Academy too young to make his mark in School football, but he became one of the game's great players.
All of us at Raeburn Place will miss him and extend our sincere sympathies to Douglas's family.

Amendments to Motions for the SRU SGM.
There will be a meeting of EAFC about the 40+ amendments to Motions for the SRU SGM. This will take place in the Accies Clubhouse on Wednesday 26th @ 7.30pm. For a copy of the proposed amendments visit Accies web site.
1XV Result 15 January
After a game we should have won by a bucket full the 1XV scrambled a win 25-22 against Peebles. A wins a win, but we didn't get the bonus point we should have got - without a bonus point and with Berwick loosing we are now level on points but behind on points scored difference. That bonus point could mean a lot at the final count up - lets hope not!

Back to business......
First I would like to wish you a good New Year on behalf of Edinburgh Accies, lets hope it brings you and the club much success. Last year saw the club gained promotion to the second division of the league where we currently find ourselves in seventh position, many points behind Stirling County - who are head and shoulders better than the rest of the league - 12 points behind Dundee in fifth place and three points behind Berwick in sixth place.
As yet no decision has been taken about the league structures for next season (where have I heard this before!) and therefore we need to finish as high up the league as possible, so any reduction in the league through reorganisation does not leave us playing in a lower division . After working so hard to re-establish ourselves in the last two seasons this would be most unsatisfactory. Consequently, as we get back to league rugby on Saturday - Jedforest at Raeburn Place kick off at 2.00 - it is important that we get into full swing and start winning at home again. We must ensure we beat all those sides below and just above us, whilst winning some of those games against the leading teams.
Your support is needed at every game. I look forward to seeing you at Raeburn Place on Saturday.
